On January 31, a blog titled "What's In Store for the Next Windows," suggested that Windows 8 development was well underway. The mysterious blogger, known only as "Sharad" wrote, "I am simply impressed with the process that Steven has set up to listen to our customers' needs and wants and get a team together that can make it happen." The blog was taken down shortly after it went live.
Other rumors suggest the growth of cloud computing and browser-based OSes could have a big impact on the next version of Windows.
