ActiveState Releases Perl Development Kit

Will the new toolset encourage more developers to use Perl 5.12?

Version 5.12 of the Perl development language was released in April, but so far, few Perl developers have chosen to upgrade. However, the number of upgrades may get a boost now that ActiveState has released a new version of its Perl Development Kit (PDK).

In addition to supporting Perl 5.12, PDK 9.0 adds support for HP-UX Unix and application deployment on 64-bit versions of Microsoft's .NET framework.

"With PDK 9.0 we're preparing for the next wave of updates that Perl developers are making," explained ActiveState's Jeff Hobbs. "While lots of people aren't yet moving to Perl 5.12, they will in the future, and the tools are now available and ready for them to do that."
