61% of Developers Plan to Use Public Cloud Computing Services in 2012

A new survey of 3,335 developers conducted by Zend Technologies found that 61 percent of developers expect to use public cloud computing services this year. While 28 percent of those surveyed weren't sure which public cloud they would use, 30 percent said they would use Amazon Web Services, making it the top pick. Rackspace came in second with 28 percent of those surveyed, followed by Microsoft Azure (6 percent), "Other" (5 percent) and IBM SmartCloud (3 percent).

The survey also confirmed that mobile development, cloud computing and big data will continue to be major trends this year. Sixty percent of developers plan to do mobile development, 41 percent plan to work on cloud projects and 40 percent expect to work on big data projects.
