Looping the characters of a string can be done via charAt() or toCharArray() as follows:

String str = "hello world";

for (int i = 0; i<str.length(); i++) {
char ch = str.charAt(i);
...
}

Or, via toCharArray():

for(char ch: str.toCharArray()) {
...
}
