For the period between November 2009 and February 2010, 234 million Americans age 13 and older were mobile subscribers. Of those, an average 45.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during any given month, an increase of 21 percent from the previous three months.

Blackberry/RIM continued to be the most popular platform, with a 42.1 percent share, up from 40.8 percent. However, Google's Android gained the most share, increasing from 3.8 percent of the market to 9 percent.

Most of those gains came at Microsoft's expense; the platform dropped four percentage points to 15.1 percent. Palm also decreased slightly, while the iPhone's market share remained basically unchanged.
