For a blow-by-blow on building the DevX Destination.NET Gadget, the tips and tricks, the trials and triumphs, check out this walkthrough by Justin Whitney. It covers all the basics on creating a Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget, as well as important considerations in building an RSS reader like this one. You’ll also get to taste the unique pleasure of building a Windows Vista product on a Windows XP development station. (Don't miss the sidebar: Developing a Windows® Sidebar Gadget in Windows XP )
Download the Gadget
To install this gadget, download it onto your Vista machine. Vista will probably change the extension from .gadget to .zip. If so, change it back to .gadget. Then just double-click to install. This gadget does not have a signed security certificate, but you can trust us!
As an added bonus for developers, this gadget uses only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. So when you download the gadget, you’ve downloaded the source files. And these particular files have been fully annotated with instructions, considerations, and developer deliberations. Tweak this code to get what you want or use it to build something entirely your own.
