Cloud Computing Boosts Microsoft’s Q1 Earnings

Microsoft has announced that it brought it $21.66 billion in revenue for its first fiscal quarter, resulting in net income of $5.38 billion, which beat Wall Street expectations. The company’s cloud computing results were particularly strong, as server and cloud services revenue increased 13 percent year-over-year. Microsoft COO Kevin Turner announced, “We’re seeing great traction with businesses who want to bring Microsoft’s cloud, mobile device management technology and data analytics together to improve security and productivity resulting in almost 70 percent year-over-year growth in our commercial cloud run rate.”

The company also noted that 110 million active devices are now running Windows 10.

The dark spots in the report were consumer hardware sales and Windows Phone, both of which showed declines.
