Enterprise IT Spending Grows More Slowly Than Predicted

Gartner has revised its predictions for 2014 worldwide IT spending down slightly. Instead of increasing by 3.2 percent, IT spending is now likely to climb 2.1 percent over 2013 levels, reaching $3.7 trillion, the company said.

Enterprise software is expected to grow much more quickly than IT spending as a whole. Spending in the category will likely rise 6.9 percent, led by increases in infrastructure software spending. Gartner says that spending on enterprise applications, such as office productivity software, is growing more slowly as organizations move towards apps delivered via cloud computing, which tend to be less expensive.
