Gartner: Cloud Computing Is Shaking Up the IT Job Market

A new report from Gartner says that the IT job market is changing significantly, and cloud computing will eliminate some positions and create others within the next 18 months. “Emerging technologies in fields such as cloud computing, mobility, and data and analytics, in addition to security and risk management, are permeating nearly every aspect of the IT landscape,” said John Hagerty, a Gartner vice president.

In a survey, IT pros said that cloud computing would be the area that has the biggest impact on jobs, with 22 percent selecting that option. The technology with the next largest impact was data and analytics, with 11 percent choosing that option.

“Acquiring cloud skills quickly is essential for IT professionals to be able to reimagine and remake their firm’s IT infrastructure to better enable digital business strategies,” added Hagerty. “However, it’s not only cloud — there’s a whole collection of technology and effectiveness-related skills that IT professionals must plan for now.”
