Responding to criticism, Microsoft has announced plans to de-clutter the Windows Store ahead of the Windows 10 launch. The company will be eliminating apps that cost too much more than their competitors. “Similar apps should generally be comparable in price,” said Bernardo Zamora, director of Microsoft’s Windows Apps and Store. “This also means that while developers may use pricing to promote their apps, they must not utilize irregular or unfair practices that violate Windows Store Code of Conduct.”
The company will also be cracking down on copycat apps, apps that aren’t appropriately tagged or labeled, and apps that don’t offer “unique content, creative value or utility.”
Last August, Microsoft conducted a similar purge of the app store, deleting 1500 scam apps.
