A new report from Gartner is confirming what many in enterprise IT already guessed—Amazon dominates the cloud computing market. In fact, Amazon’s utilized compute capacity is five times as big as that of the other 14 vendors in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant combined.
Surprisingly, Amazon has achieved this level of success while spending much less on IT resources than many of its competitors. Google has spent $20.9 billion on infrastructure for its cloud computing offerings, and Microsoft, nearly $18 billion, while Amazon Web Services has shelled out just $12 billion.
Now Amazon is increasing its level of spending, hinting that things could get a lot worse for its cloud competitors.
