The Eclipse Foundation, the group behind the popular open source Eclipse IDE, releases an annual “train” of updates for its projects. This year’s train, codenamed Mars, was released on schedule and included 79 different projects. Some of the more significant were Jubula, a Client API that allows developers to store Java test cases in Git, and Oomph, a new set of tools that make it easier to install the Eclipse IDE and set up a project-specific workspace. The release also included improved Maven and Gradle support, Quick Fixes for Java 8, automated error-reporting, Docker plugins and Sirius 3.0.
Mike Milinkovich, the Eclipse Foundation executive director, released a statement which said, “Ten years of shipping coordinated release trains, which were all on time to the day, is a great accomplishment by the Eclipse community. This predictable release schedule has been a huge benefit to our community and ecosystem and has encouraged widespread adoption of Eclipse technology.”
