IDC Forecasts Boost in Windows Tablet Sales

Market researchers at IDC are predicting that tablet sales are about to cool down. It believes sales of the mobile devices will grow at just 19.4 percent this year, a decrease from 51.6 percent in 2013.

However, the firm expects business sales of tablets to increase from 11 percent of the total market to 18 percent. That growth “is likely to benefit Microsoft’s Windows over time,” said IDC.

“The choice of operating system will be a key differentiating factor when it comes to success in the commercial segment,” stated Jitesh Ubrani, a research analyst at IDC. “Though Android and iOS will remain dominant, we expect Windows-based devices to capture more than a quarter of the market as its benefits become apparent thanks to growing adoption of 2-in-1s.”

That trend could also spur the development of more mobile apps that run on Windows.
