Report: Microsoft to Announce Major Job Cuts

Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft is planning its biggest job reduction in history, based on information from unnamed sources. That would mean more than 5,800 people would lose their jobs out of a workforce of 127,104 employees.

According to the report, many workers from Nokia, which Microsoft recently acquired, could be among those who are laid off, particularly those with jobs that overlap similar functions at Microsoft. Other departments likely to see large headcount reductions include the Xbox team and software testers. In a recent memo, CEO Satya Nadella noted that it makes sense to have developers do many of the tasks that were formerly done by testing teams.

Microsoft will announce fourth-quarter earnings next week.
