There have been some major developments in the push towards standards for the Internet of Things. Qualcomm has transferred ownership of its AllJoyn protocol to the Linux Foundation, and twenty-three companies has set up a new organization, the AllSeen Alliance, that plans to support those protocols as a standard. Products that support the AllSeen or AllJoyn standard (there’s no final word on the name) will be able to communicate with each other—an important first step toward creating the Internet of Things.
However, there are few big names in the AllSeen Alliance. The companies signed up so far include LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Sears, Cisco, HTC and many less-well-known brands.
