Docker, CoreOS Unite on Open Container Project

Docker and CoreOS have been the two biggest competitors in containerization, but the two are now coming together in the Open Container Project, a new standardization effort overseen by the Linux Foundation. The effort is supported by many of the most well-known enterprise IT vendors, including Amazon Web Services, Apcera, Cisco, EMC, Fujitsu Limited, Goldman Sachs, Google, HP, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Joyent, Mesosphere, Microsoft, Pivotal, Rancher Labs, Red Hat, and VMware.

The new standard will be called RunC. It should ensure compatibility between Docker containers and CoreOS’s rkt containers.
