Intel Buys Two API Management Firms

While it’s known primarily as a chip vendor, Intel has acquired a pair of software companies, both of which are focused on API management for mobile development. The first is Aepona, which is based in Belfast, Ireland. It offers tools for tracking mobile device use, location, and other data, and it also helps enable mobile payments.

The second firm is Mashery, based in San Francisco, which helps enterprises manage their APIs.

Last week, Intel named Renee James, the former head of the software division, as its new president, another indication that the firm is increasingly interested in software.
