For its fourth fiscal quarter of 2014, Microsoft has reported $23.38 billion in revenue and net income of $4.6 billion, beating analysts revenue predictions and coming in slightly below income forecasts. For the year, the company had $86.8 billion in revenue and $22 billion in profit, up from last year’s $77.8 billion in sales and $21.8 billion in profit.
The strong sales numbers are due in part to an excellent performance by Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing business. “I’m proud that our aggressive move to the cloud is paying off?our commercial cloud revenue doubled again this year to a $4.4 billion annual run rate,” said CEO Satya Nadella. Chief financial officer Amy Hood added that enterprises are flocking to Azure with “storage doubling and compute tripling this year.”
