Sony Begins Selling Developer Preview of SmartEyeglass

Sony has begun selling a preview version of its SmartEyeglass to interested developers and enterprises, and it has also made an SDK available for those who want to create apps for the device.

Similar to Google Glass, the device pairs with a smartphone and displays notifications on the lenses of the glasses. The device has a large, chunky black frame that isn’t particularly stylish. However, Sony is positioning SmartEyeglass as a tool for work rather than a fashion statement. They are suggesting that manufacturers could use the glasses to provide their workers with hands-free instructions for completing tasks.

The device will cost $840 in the U.S., and it is also available in the U.K., Germany and Japan. Next month, the devices will arrive in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and Sweden.
