VMware has several big announcements planned for its VMworld conference, which begins on Monday. First, the company will announce its own distribution of the OpenStack cloud computing software. The new offering will allow customers to use the OpenStack technology, which is growing in popularity, while continuing to use VMware virtualization.
Second, the company will launch containerization technology. It will be available free to enterprises that use vCloud.
And finally, the company plans to release a hardware appliance called Evo:Rail that will be sold through partners like Dell, EMC and Fujitsu. The appliance aims to make it easy to set up a virtualized environment, and it includes compute, networking and storage capabilities.
