Assign Image and Color Backgrounds in Table Cells

Browsers Targeted: Internet Explorer 4+

In Internet Explorer, you can assign images and colors into table cells and table rows through the background-image and background-color CSS attribute within style sheets. As a simple example, consider this table in which the colors of the rows alternate:

<style>
.headRow {background-color:navy;background-image:url(deepBlue.jpg);
color:white;font-weight:bold;height:40px}
.evenRow {background-color:#C0FFC0;color:black;}
.oddRow {background-color:#white;color:black;}
</style>

<table>
<tr class="headRow"><td>Quarter</td><td>Sales Figures</td></tr>
<tr class="evenRow"><td>Jan 99</td><td>$12,550,200</td></tr>
<tr class="oddRow"><td>Apr 99</td><td>$16,320,300</td></tr>
<tr class="evenRow"><td>Jul 99</td><td>$14,123,220</td></tr>
<tr class="oddRow"><td>Apr 99</td><td>$18,982,420</td></tr>
</table>
