Determine the Number of Fields in a Record from the Result Set

This can be done by using ResultSetMetaData. For example, to get the number of columns you can use:

/* get the meta-information about the result set */
ResultSetMetaData metaData = rs.getMetaData(); // _
"rs" is of type
ResultSet

/* get the number of columns in the result set */
int numberOfColumns = metaData.getColumnCount();

/* now, print the column name and value */
for (int i = 1; i <= numberOfColumns; i++) {
   System.out.println("Column Name = " + _
metaData.getColumnName(i) + "
Value = " + rs.getString(i));
}
