Changing Password in Oracle 7.3 database from PB

Question:
I am creating a "Change Password" screen in PowerBuilder 5.0. The window basically accepts the password entered by the user, verifies it by connecting to the database, then tries to change the password in the database. I tried using the Oracle "ALTER" command in PowerScript but with no success.

Am I on the wrong track? Maybe you can tell me what I need to do to change the password on the Oracle database from PowerBuilder.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Thank You. Tom

Answer:
You will need to use the EXECUTE IMMEDIATE command to achieve what you are trying to do.

The EXECUTE IMMEDIATE allows you to build a string and have it executed by the backend database.

To change the users password use the following code:

String ls_SQL

ls_SQL = "ALTER USER " + as_User + " IDENTIFIED BY ~"" + as_NewPass + "~""
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE :ls_SQL USING SQLCA;
