Creating Remote Views

Question:
How can I make a form that accesses and modifies SQL databases the same way I do with a .dbf database?

Answer:
You can accomplish what you need by creating what are called "remote" views. Remote views are cursors that go against ODBC datasource backends. Remote views require a database (DBC) file.

You can create a remote view as follows:

  1. Open a database (ex. MODIFY DATA TEST).
  2. Right-click on the design surface.
  3. Choose New Remote View from the popup menu.
A form similar to the query designer comes up, allowing you to create the remote view. If you add the remote view to the data environment of a form, you can use it just like a table.
