Using the History Object to Go to Specific Pages

Question:

I am using history objects back(1) ( history.back(1) )method in my HTML application to go to previous screen and it is working alright but I am not able to go back to a second previous screen . I have tried history.back(2), history.back(3), and so forth but it is not working.

Answer:

The back method only sends the person to the previous URL (just like the Back button on the browser toolbar). If you want to go to specific pages in the history list, then you'll want to use the "go" method, and specify a negative number to go back, a positive to go forward:

history.go(-1); // back one page
history.go(-3); // back three pages
