Dynamic Report Generation

Question:
How can I develop a report such that the user can choose what fields of a (single) table should be retrieved and printed? For example, a customer table with a reporting feature in the application that prints out any or all of the fields from this table.

Answer:
Take a look at the SyntaxFromSQL command. You can show the user a listbox of the available columns and allow them to select the columns they wish to view. Then construct a simple Select statement for their selected columns.

Use the SyntaxFromSQL command to convert the SQL into a datawindow Syntax string. Then you can use the datawindow object to display and retrieve the data.

If you need any fancy formatting, use the modify command to alter the presentation.
