Question:
Is it possible to display the address of the previous Web site as a string so that I can use it elsewhere?

Answer:

If the user got to your page by clicking on a link, you can find the name of that page at document.referrer.

By the way, Netscape has a known bug where document.referrer is always set to the previous page, whether or not they clicked on a link from there to get to your page.
