Solving Eclipse (Ganymede) and PermGem Out-of-Memory Errors

First, launch Eclipse with increased memory options, which you can do as follows (increase these values as needed, but don't exceed your available memory):

eclipse.exe -vmargs -Xmx512M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M

Sometimes, the preceding solution has a limited effect, and the errors don't go away. In that case, try starting Eclipse from ECLIPSE_HOME by double-clicking on the eclipsec.exe application rather than the main executable.

If you have a hot tip and we publish it, we'll pay you. However, due to accounting overhead we no longer pay $10 for a single tip submission. You must accumulate 10 acceptable tips to receive payment. Be sure to include a clear explanation of what the technique does and why it's useful. If it includes code, limit it to 20 lines if possible. Submit your tip here.
