Error When Performing Inserts on SQL Server
by DevX Pro
When inserting data into a table that has an identity column that is also the key, the following error occurs: Non-Blob column in table is required to perform operation. I have tried to set break points to see what is happening, but I haven't been able to find a point in the code where it breaks. The same code worked on this table before there was an ID column that was the identity column and the key.
Displaying Text and Setting the Font
by DevX Pro
I am working on a project that reads in teletext information from the COM port in 8-bit binary form. Since ASCII does not represent teletext graphical characters, I have written my own font to represent the teletext characters. How can I change the font with which they are displayed to my font? At the moment I can only display the files in ASCII, as when I set the input to teletext it displays the wrong characters. I think it's reading the input and outputting the corresponding glyphs using some default windows font type. Is there some Win API command that can allow me to choose the font type with which to display the information?
Runing a DOS Program
by DevX Pro
I am trying to run a DOS program using the folowing syntax: WinExec('Command.com /c c:\remaddr CN=variable', wn_shownormal); I can't manage to get it to work with a variable "variable"; I always get a variable conflict.
SizeOf Function in Delphi
by DevX Pro
I'm using Delphi 2.0 Client/Server. The Delphi Object Pascal user's guide says that the Integer size is 2 bytes (signed 16-bit with Range -32768-32768). But when I do the SizeOf(Integer) in the Delphi Evaluate box, I get the value 4. Is the SizeOf Integer in Delphi 2 or 4 bytes?
Splitting a TXT File
by DevX Pro
I want to split a TXT file into smaller TXT files. The program should split the file every time there are three empty lines. For example: Paragraph1 Paragraph2 Paragraph1 and Paragraph 2 would become separate text files. I would be grateful if you could tell me which commands I should use or even build such program if it isn't too difficult.
Exploring Table Information
by DevX Pro
How do I interrogate tables randomly and print out their structures, components, sizes, and indexes? This ability would be useful in allowing me to check how I have created tables, what indexes have been set, what the string sizes are, and so forth, without needing to check through all the code or using the field editor.
Is Delphi the New Pascal Compiler?
by DevX Pro
I'm leaving Turbo Pascal for Windows 1.5 and Turbo Pascal 7.0 because they don't work correctly with Windows 95 (for example, division by 0). I heard that Delphi is the new Pascal compiler. But the sites about the Delphi resellers are confusing, with reference to the SQL database and so on. Before I continue my search can you confirm with me that Delphi is the new Pascal compiler?
Obtaining the Version Information
by DevX Pro
The VS_VERSIONINFO structure can be used to obtain file version data about files with extended version data. This structure is not included in Delphi 4.0, nor is it included in any Microsoft SDK. How do I use it and the associated functions to get this version data?
CreateProcess in Windows NT
by DevX Pro
I am using CreateProcess to run applications in Windows NT. I cannot start any applications that are located in the directory Program Files. The user properties are set the same for every directory. Is there another way to start the applications?
Creating an Editor Like MS Notepad
by DevX Pro
I am working on a project where I am supposed to create a Microsoft notepad-like program. Do you have any tips on how I should go about creating it?
Invalid File Pointer, Exception EAccess Violation
by DevX Pro
I have developed an application in Delphi 3.0 Client/Server Suite. It reads and validates records from an Access 95 database and then writes to AS400. The software processes 606 records and then reports a runtime error: INVALID FILE POINTER and on exit by runtime error: EXCEPTION EACCESS VIOLATION IN MODULE CCIBATCH.EXE AT ADDRESS 00002E10. ACCESS VIOLATION AT ADDRESS 00402E10 IN MODULE 'CCIBATCH.EXE'. READ AT ADDRESS 008207FC. The error only occurs after processing 605 records and is volume/memory related. I have used BDE 4.0 and 5.0, but the problem remains. Can you help?
Error Checking Using DriveComboBox Component
by DevX Pro
I am finding it difficult to check whether an error has occurred in selecting a drive when it is not available at the time. I have tried to use IOResult when the change event takes place, but it doesn't seem to work. The error that occurs is I/O result 21. IOResult works with other I/O errors that occur, such as "file not found," but using IOResult with a component like DriveComboBox doesn't work. I would appreciate if you could help me solve this problem.
Saving List Box Data at Run Time 16 Bit Delphi 1
by DevX Pro
How do I save data entered in a list box at run time without resorting to a text file or having to deal with the overhead of a table? I am using 16bit Delphi 1.
Win API
by DevX Pro
Is there a way under Delphi 3 and 4 to determine if a previous instance of the application is already running?
Writing to Paradox Tables With Delphi
by DevX Pro
I am unable to post records permanently to Paradox tables using Delphi 3. The records appear in the table object but disappear after I exit Delphi and start another session later. I don't get any error messages. I can also see the records using the Database Desktop but not after I exit and restart Delphi. Can you help me?
Application Design and Passwords
by DevX Pro
How do you protect an application with a password and store it in the application's exe-file?
SQL Joins with Paradox
by DevX Pro
I'm developing a program that lists all of a shop's clients and the items that they purchased. The problem is that if some clients haven't bought anything, they don't appear. I would like to perform a left join (like in Access) with Paradox. However, I don't know Paradox and the BDE well enough. Can you please help me?
16/32 Bit Strings
by DevX Pro
Is there a difference in the way that strings are passed between an application written in Delphi 1.0 and a DLL and between an application written in Delphi 3.0 and a DLL? For example, are the strings in Delphi 3.0 null terminated?
Selecting and Moving Parts of a String
by DevX Pro
I have two TField400s. The first TField400 contains the value "12345678" and other TField400 contains the value "11111111". I want to move the "5678" from the first TField400 and place it in the second TField400 so the value in the second TField400 will be "11115678" instead of "11111111".
