Read the Contents of a JAR File Using Java

Java provides a very easy mechanism to read jar files. It is the same process used for reading a zip file. The file myFiles.jar contains one or more files (as you need). They are compressed in the jar file format.

Try using the code snippet below to read the contents of a jar file.

import java.util.jar.*;
import java.util.Enumeration;
import java.io.*;

public class ReadJarFile
{

   public static void main(String args[])
   {
      ReadJarFile readJarFile = new ReadJarFile();
      readJarFile.process();
   }

   private void process()
   {
      try{
         JarFile jarFile = new JarFile("myFiles.jar");
         Enumeration enumOfJar = jarFile.entries();
         while (enumOfJar.hasMoreElements()) {
            System.out.println(enumOfJar.nextElement().getName());
         }
      }catch(IOException ioe)
      {
         System.out.println("IOException: " + ioe);
      }
   }
}
