IBM to Spend $200 Million on Watson IoT Headquarters

The company is beefing up its cognitive computing and Internet of Things capabilities.

Last year, IBM announced that it planned to spend $3 billion on its Watson cognitive computing platform's Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities. Now it has revealed that $200 million of that money will be spent on its new IoT headquarters in Munich, Germany. Some of that investment will fund "IoT Collaboratories," labs where customers can work with IBM engineers and developers on new IoT solutions.

At the same time, IBM also announced several new offerings that are related to Watson, IoT and cloud computing. They include a blockchain service, advanced IoT security assessments, IoT threat intelligence, IoT data anonymization, the Watson Natural Language Classifier Service and the Cognitive IoT Cookbook.
