According to a new report from market research firm IDC, the application development and deployment (AD&D) software market will likely generate $80.6 billion in revenue this year. That’s a 3.7 percent increase over 2011. The three largest AD&D software vendors–Oracle, IBM and Microsoft–dominated the market with a combined 54.7 percent market share.
The AD&D market includes database software, distributed cache services managers, process middleware, business intelligence and 19 other software segments. IDC expects that the distributed cache services managers market will grow the most of any AD&D segment in 2013 after posting 16 percent growth in the first half of 2012. Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSes) comprise 34 percent of the AD&D category and are expected to show strong growth in sales throughout 2013 and following years.
