Microsoft has added several new features to its Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) browser to improve its backward compatibility. That’s important for many enterprises which have legacy Web applications built for earlier versions of the browser. Specifically, IE11 now has higher fidelity emulation in the IE8 and IE7 Enterprise Modes, and it also now has support for HTTP ports in Enterprise Mode.
The company also released its Web Application Compatibility Lab Kit, a set of tools that helps enterprise administrators configure IE11 so that it will be able to access older Web apps. Microsoft explained, “This Lab Kit provides a walk-through of how to configure and set up Enterprise Mode in addition to Enterprise Site Discovery, the F12 developer tools, and the Enterprise Mode Site List Manager.”
