Amazon Launches OpsWorks Application Management Tool

Amazon’s cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has launched a new application management tool called OpsWorks. Built from technology that Amazon acquired with the purchase of Berlin-based Peritor last year, it automates many common cloud development and deployment tasks. According to the company blog, it manages the “complete application life cycle, including resource provisioning, configuration management, application deployment, software updates, monitoring and access control.”

The tool is designed to fit in with the DevOps philosophy that is growing in popularity. Observers say it could also have an impact on the larger platform as a service (PaaS) market.
