An Argument in Favor of Pascal and Delphi

Most developers tend to dismiss Pascal and its derivative Delphi as outdated legacy programming languages that few people use any more. But Embarcadero Technologies, which purchased Delphi in 2008, says the language deserves a second look.

“[Delphi] has kept more up to date than a lot of other languages. It’s got generics, it’s got closures, it’s been kept up to date with language development,” says Embarcadero’s Malcolm Groves.

He adds that many enterprises have a large existing Delphi code base. “They’ve got a large set of IP that’s been implemented in Delphi code … it would be crazy to re-write it. It would be a bad investment on a bunch of levels to re-write that simply for the sake of it,” Groves added.
