At the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit last week, James Pearce, who heads up Facebook’s open source efforts, said the company is picking up the pace on its contributions to open source projects. According to Pearce, Facebook has more than 235 open source projects, including 64 that were released just in the last six months of 2014. “What’s interesting is not just the quantity of projects, but the diversity of them,” Pearce said.
Pearce added that the social network has used some gamification techniques to spur friendly competition among the teams working on various projects. Those efforts have helped improve some of the GitHub metrics on Facebook projects; the social network’s GitHub projects now have 150,000 followers and 26,000 forks.
