IBM has announced that it is working with Toyota to build an application development platform for in-vehicle apps. The project is part of Toyota’s T-Connect initiative, which is trying to speed up the creation of connected vehicles and in-car apps.
“As the industry continues to move toward bringing fully connected vehicles to market, new requirements for leveraging innovations in technologies like mobile continue to emerge,” said Dirk Wollschl?ger, general manager of the global automotive industry business at IBM, in a statement. “The connected vehicle transformation will require collaboration across disciplines. We are proud to start on that path with Toyota and nurture the power of its thriving ecosystem.”
Eventually, IBM plans to release an SDK that will allow mobile development firms to create in-vehicle apps simply and quickly.
Researchers say the connected vehicle market will be worth $53 billion by 2018.
