Oracle Launches Cloud Platform for Big Data

During its OpenWorld 2015 event, Oracle unveiled its Cloud Platform for Big Data, which is part of its cloud development PaaS. Somewhat confusingly, Oracle already offered a Big Data Cloud Service and a Big Data SQL Cloud Service. The new platform offering combines those two services with a handful of new services, including Big Data Preparation Cloud Service, GoldenGate Cloud Service, Big Data Discovery Cloud Service and NoSQL Database Cloud Service.

“Big Data is helping customers address critical areas: improving customer experience, reducing churn, streamlining operations and building Internet of Things (IoT) applications,” Oracle exec Thomas Kurian said. “We’re already seeing it on-premises where our Big Data business is growing faster than the market as a whole. With Oracle’s new Cloud Platform for Big Data, we’re delivering on our promise to enable customers to take advantage of the same technologies on-premises and in the cloud and widening Oracle’s lead in cloud computing.”
