If Red Hat, Hortonworks and Mirantis have their way, it will soon be a lot easier to deploy Hadoop in OpenStack-based cloud computing environments. The three vendors are working on a new project called Savanna that will “allow Hadoop to take advantage of the scale-out storage architecture that OpenStack offers,” said Adrian Ionel Mirantis CEO.
“The cloud provides an economic low-cost infrastructure that scales out easily. And that is something that is very important in the Hadoop world, as many of these projects are spinning up quickly inside of business units, and they don’t necessarily talk with the IT folks,” explained Shaun Connolly from Hortonworks.
The companies plan to have a demonstration version of Savanna ready by June.
