Conference Offers Tips on Mobile App Privacy

A conference held this week at the University of California’s Hastings College of Law in San Francisco offered some advice about privacy for the mobile development industry. Tim Wyatt, director of security engineering at Lookout, told developers not to worry about over-communicating. He advised using clear, friendly language to explain privacy policies.

“The thing people don’t like is when things happen behind their back,” said Casey Oppenheim, cofounder at Disconnect.me. “If you give users some context about what’s happening, you may be surprised what they’re willing to accept,” he added.

“It’s really about creating a dialogue between what the product does and what users’ expectations are of their choices,” explained Mozilla counsel Jishnu Menon.
