Google Takes the Beta Label Off Compute Engine

Google has announced general availability for Compute Engine, its IaaS that competes with Amazon Web Services’ EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) and S3 (Simple Storage Service). In addition, the company lowered ordinary server instance prices by 10 percent, cut storage fees by 60 percent, and dropped the charges for storage input-output. It also debuted a new 16-core server option.

Google Compute Engine supports most popular flavors of Linux and promises 99.95 percent uptime. Recently acquired customers include Snapchat, Cooladata, Mendelics, Evite and Wix.
