On Thursday, HP announced that it would purchase Eucalyptus, a company that offers open source software for building hybrid cloud computing environments. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but HP did say that it would name Eucalyptus CEO Marten Mickos as general manager of HP’s cloud business.
Industry watchers say the acquisition strengthens HP’s position in the cloud computing market and gives it more credibility as a supporter of open source software, particularly OpenStack architecture.
