IBM Launches Cloud-Based Apache Spark Service

At its Insight 2015 conference, IBM announced general availability for its Analytics on Apache Spark, a big data analytics service that runs on its Bluemix cloud development platform. Apache Spark is an open source data processing engine that can handle both real-time and batch workloads. “Spark is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in the big data ecosystem,? said Beth Smith, general manager of the Analytics Platform for IBM Analytics.

IBM said that during the beta preview for Analytics on Apache Spark, more than 3,000 developers used the service to build apps based on big data analytics.

IBM also plans to integrate Spark into some of its other cloud-based analytics services.
