Microsoft has introduced a new open source project called Project Bletchley that expands on its plans for blockchain technology. Blockchain is the distributed database technology that forms the basis for Bitcoin cryptocurrency, and it’s recently been getting a lot of attention from enterprises, particularly those in the financial services industry. Last November, Microsoft announced it was adding Blockchain as a Service to its Azure cloud computing offerings.
With Project Bletchley, Microsoft is filling out its blockchain offerings, giving enterprises some of the middleware they will need to build applications using blockchain technology. Project Bletchley also introduces a new concept called cryptlets which provide communication among cloud services, blockchain applications and middleware, and other technologies.
The company says it will provide more details about the project next month at its Worldwide Partner Conference.
