Since last Thursday, the online coding repository GitHub has been under a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that China is likely behind the attack.
The attack is targeting two tools that help Chinese Internet users get around the censorship restrictions imposed by their government. Chinese officials did not respond to the Journal‘s requests for a comment. GitHub has said, “Based on reports we?ve received, we believe the intent of this attack is to convince us to remove a specific class of content,” but it did not speculate on the origin of the cyberattack.
GitHub users have been reporting difficulty accessing some GitHub projects.
