Director Departs

Hideaki Itsuno has announced his departure from Capcom after 30 years with the company. The Japanese game director and designer shared the news on social media, revealing that he plans to start developing a new game in a different environment starting in September. “Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for,” Itsuno wrote.

“I hope you will continue to support the games and characters. From September, I will start developing a new game in a new environment. I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far.

Please stay tuned for my next creation.”

Itsuno joined Capcom in 1994, initially working in its arcade division known as Production Studio 1. His first directing job was on Star Gladiator, which he joined halfway through production.

Itsuno went on to work on the Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma franchises, with his most recent work being the well-received Dragon’s Dogma 2. Fans and industry insiders alike have expressed surprise at Itsuno’s decision to leave Capcom, but many are excited to see what he will create in his new role. Some have speculated that he may join another major studio or even start his own independent development team.

Itsuno’s departure marks the end of an era at Capcom, where he played a key role in shaping several iconic franchises. However, it also signals the beginning of a new chapter in his career, with the promise of fresh and innovative games to come. As one fan commented on social media, “Good games indeed! Wish him the best of luck!” Another added, “I wish him the best in his next job.”

While some fans expressed disappointment at the news, with one lamenting that there may not be any DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2 now, most seemed to understand Itsuno’s decision and are eager to see what he will create next.

Itsuno’s legacy at Capcom is secure, with his work on franchises like Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma cementing his status as one of the industry’s most talented and influential developers. As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, fans and industry watchers alike will be keeping a close eye on his next moves.
