Amazon Web Services has announced that it is adding a new instance to its Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) services. It now offers an instance that includes 35 EC2 Compute Units (ECUs) of compute capacity, 117 GB of RAM and 48TB of storage across 24 hard disk drives, providing “more than 2.4 GB per second of sequential I/O performance.”
According to the company, the new service is ideal for data-intensive applications, such as Hadoop workloads or other applications that perform big data analytics.
The new EC2 instances are currently available from Amazon’s East (Northern Virginia) cloud region.
