Kaspersky Incident Demonstrates the Importance of Testing

Last week, security vendor Kaspersky released an update for its password safe software. Unfortunately, the update caused a serious problem for Windows 7 users, rendering the software inoperable and in some cases making it impossible for users to access their passwords.

Andrew Binstock with Dr. Dobb’s builds a convincing case that Kaspersky must not have performed adequate testing. He writes that testing has “become such a standard part of development that its absence looks like the sign of a shop mired in the past ways of doing things or just too sloppy to care about the code they write.”
