Microsoft Azure Experiences Downtime

On Monday, August 18, Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service experienced an outage in several different worldwide regions. The problem began just before 2 in the afternoon eastern time with a service disruption for cloud services and virtual machines. Within an hour and a half, the problem had grown to include “Automation, Service Bus, Backup, Site Recovery and possible other Azure Services” according to a company notice, and soon Azure HDInsight and Azure Mobile Services were affected as well.

The incident was resolved with all cloud computing services back online by 10 p.m. eastern time on Monday evening.

Microsoft has experienced multiple service disruptions with its cloud-based services in recent days, including a Visual Studio Online outage that occurred last Thursday. Azure’s Japan East region also experienced downtime last week, as did Microsoft CRM Online.
