As promised, Microsoft has open sourced PowerShell, it’s command-line scripting language for the .NET framework. In addition, it released alpha versions of PowerShell ports for Linux and Mac OS X. “PowerShell on Linux is now designed to enable customers to use the same tools, and the same people, to manage everything from anywhere,” said Jeffrey Snover, a Microsoft technical fellow. “It is initially available on Ubuntu, Centos, as well as Red Hat, and also runs on Mac OS X. More platforms will be added in the future.”
The PowerShell code is now available through GitHub.
According to Microsoft, there are 1.8 billion active installs of the .NET framework worldwide.
